I have never been so fucking confused on how to watch a TV show in my life” -alfredo

Why hello there, and welcome to another post of Currently Watching, where I talk about an anime I am… currently watching, my thoughts on it and some other shit I’ll talk about.

Other than Kimi ni Todoke season 2 and after about three attempts at trying to watch this show, I am currently watching the famous The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, made by Kyoto Animation, who made K-ON!, Clannad and a bunch of other popular ass shows.

To give you a short summary of this show, a guy named Kyon stumbles upon a strange girl named Haruhi Suzumiya who is sick of being in a boring world and wants to experience something much more different than what she usually sees in the world. She then makes a club who’s objective is to discover supernatural shit. Three individuals who look like regular ass people that join Haruhi’s club are actually supernatural beings. Mikuru Asahina is a time traveling wizard of some sort, Yuki Nagato is an alien robot or some shit and finally Itsuki Koizumi is an esper. Other than Haruhi not knowing that she is right in front of what she was wanting to experience, she also doesn’t know that she herself has unusual, yet very powerful… powers such as creating a whole world. How Kyon is involved with all this mess, it’d be better if you watch it for yourself.

If that made sense, there you go.

Alright the important part. So the layout of this show (i think) is that there are many different “adventures” this silly little gang go on and when this show was first aired in Japan, the overall story was jumbled up and a lot of people couldn’t keep up with the timeline of events and the order it went in.

If you want to even try to watch this show, there are apparently two ways you can.

(all of the information I got was from this helpful image someone made: here)

Number one, the broadcast order. What this basically means is that you can watch Haruhi just straight through. Season 1 then Season 2. The way that it was showed in Japan. The regular way. The problem is, or it might not be a problem for you, the first season’s events are mixed around and you’re the one who is supposed to put it all together like a puzzle to figure out the timeline of events. Apparently people liked watching in this order but…

How I am watching is the chronological order. Watching-wise, it’s much more confusing since you have pick specific episodes (only for season 1), for example, one adventure is episodes 1-6. Since this is the chronological order, for the next adventure I would need to go to episode 9 now (that’s not how it actually changes, just an example). But with season 2, you can just watch it straight through. Story-wise, it makes the show easier to understand without the hassle of being confused.

JUST FOUND OUT THAT 9ANIME.TO ALREADY HAS IT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. IF YOU WANT TO DO THE BROADCAST ORDER, YOU WILL HAVE TO TORRENT THE SHOW IN THE RIGHT ORDER (im pretty sure some people have complied it that way)

We’re lucky we can find a guide on how to watch chronologically now but imagine people figuring this shit out back then. Wow.

So I just had a really hard time finding the right way to watch this show. Many people liked it the broadcast way, many people liked it the chronological way. It’s really up to you on how you want to watch this show.

For predictions… I don’t fucking know anymore. I watched the first 6 episodes, which is the first “adventure” and I don’t know what to expect. I mean Haruhi will probably keep finding those supernatural beings and yeah. I actually don’t know.

Seems like a promising show. Very interesting with all the secrets everyone is keeping from Haruhi and the twist with her actually having powers herself.

I’ll keep watching it.
