Let me just say right now that you are going to see a lot of Love Live related content on this blog. I don’t know when I’ll be able to crawl out of the deep pits of idol hell (i’m just joking around, that statement doesn’t mean love live is bad), but with Love Live! Sunshine!! season 2 coming Fall 2017, I might as well tell you my favorite songs from the first season of this fun anime.
If you don’t know what Love Live! Sunshine!! is, it’s a spin-off of the anime Love Live! School Idol Project, a show about female school idols and their adventures to win the school idol competition called Love Live. Sunshine!! is basically the same concept but it continues off of the original series and how the previous group, µ’s, greatly impacted the level of competition of school idols years later.
- Check out my top 15 favorite songs from the original series, School Idol Project, here!
You can see my in-depth review on Sunshine!! here, but if you ask me, I believe that this spin-off and this group, Aqours (pronounced “aqua”) are definitely not as good as the original series, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. It was nice show to watch after experiencing the greatness of µ’s and I really wouldn’t want anyone else but this new group of funny, lovable individuals.
Now before we start, I would like to say that this post is opinion based so if you do not see your favorite song as my first choice or on this list at all, just know that you shouldn’t take it seriously since this is suppose to be fun. Without further a do, here are my 10 favorite Aqours songs.
Also, I will not guarantee that all of the YouTube videos of the songs will be here later on due to most videos being taken down for copyright so if you don’t see a video of a song here anymore, just look it up on YouTube. There will probably be another one.
10. Tokimeki Bunruigaku (AZALEA Subunit Single)
If you didn’t know about subunits in Love Live, basically all nine of the members of the group split up into three units of three members and those three make singles and such. This is AZALEA, consisting of Dia Kurosawa, Kanan Matsuura and Hanamaru Kunikida. This song is very relaxing and not too energetic, which fits these three individuals’ voices. In my opinion, these three have the nicest voices out of everyone else in Aqours.
9. Genki Zenkai DAY! DAY! DAY! (CYaRon! Subunit Single)
Here we have another subunit of Aqours, CYaRon!, consisting of Ruby Kurosawa, Chika Takami and You Watanabe. This song is definitely much, much more lively and energetic than the previous song but it is very enjoyable. The way Chika, You and Ruby sing together isn’t the most beautiful way but it’s a fun song for these three individuals.
8. Yume de Yozora wo Terashitai (Episode 6 Insert Song)
A very chillax song with the first and second years. The reason why I like this song is pretty much the members’ voices especially Maru, Yoshiko and You’s cause they sound beautiful.
7. Omoi yo Hitotsu ni Nare (Episode 11 Insert Song)
In this song, the intro just interests you immediately. Everyone’s voices harmonizing with Riko’s beautiful piano playing included makes this song a nice one to hear.
6. Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM (Aqours Single)
If you have been following my blog for a while, you might remember me always introducing my posts with the greeting, “yousoro”. That catchphrase is in fact from this show, used by You Watanabe, my personal favorite member from Aqours and the center of this song. This song is just upbeat and everyone’s vocals were great to hear.
5. MIRAI TICKET (Episode 12 Insert Song)
If you don’t want the story to be spoiled, you might want to skip this one. Being the last song of the season when they were at the regional qualifiers for the Love Live competition, it was definitely a strong track to prove that they can possibly win this school idol contest. The chorus is why I really like this song, it just sounds beautiful.
4. HAPPY PARTY TRAIN (Aqours Single)
I’m glad Kanan got to be the center for a song. Her voice is beautiful and to be honest, she wasn’t expressed much in the anime so this is a great showing of her and her abilities to sing and dance. Other than her, everyone else’s singing was superb and it’s just a nice song to listen to.
3. Yume Kataru yori Yume Utaou (Ending)
To be extremely honest, this ending is probably the best one out of all of the Love Live endings, including the original series… and that’s a bold ass statement. The voices of the second years, especially, really make this song beautiful and it has a bittersweet vibe to it.
2. Kimeta yo Hand in Hand (Episode 1 Insert Song)
Like in the original series, they made the trio of the second years amazing again. Chika, You and Riko singing this song sounds very nice and it’s a more energetic song. I would definitely compare this song and how it’s shown in the anime to the second years’ insert song from the first episode of School Idol Project, “Susume→Tomorrow” cause they’re pretty similar with the energy of this ChikaYouRiko song.
1. Mijuku Dreamer (Episode 9 Insert Song)
My goodness, this song. This is definitely my favorite song from this group because of the mellow tone and the beautiful way everyone sings. If you watched this episode, you would know that this was after all the third years finally joined the group to fully make up Aqours. And the third years, Kanan, Mari and Dia, have some really fucking nice voices, I will have to say.
So, in conclusion, Aqours definitely has potential. At this point, I really suggest that you shouldn’t compare this group a lot to the previous group, µ’s. I say that because while Aqours gained so much influence from them, after hearing these songs, they have their own charm and personalities put into them and that’s what makes Aqours pretty unique. I will say that I had to watch the seiyuu videos, listen more to the songs, and laugh at the memes to really appreciate this group and once I fully saw the potential in them, I’ll say that I enjoy seeing them and their quirky adventures together. I can’t wait for season 2 to come along and I’m glad that you took time to read this list!
